P2P Dangerous?

Peer to peer networking is mostly positive. The majority of people using free social networks such as Facebook, Skype benefit from it as it helps people keep contact. For example, people from different continents can talk frequently talk to each other without paying a dime. Skype has become the best way of communicating with family and friends for international students. Social networking can also have negative repercussions such as stalkers, identity theft. Here is a small article about a man who recently plead guilty to "sharing images of child pornography" through a peer to peer computer network: http://www.newschannel10.com/story/14510638/tucumcari-man-pleaded-guilty-of-child-porn-charges

Peer to Peer Networking: The Money Maker

LOL! So I ran across this article explaining that peer to peer fundraising is NOT just for Healthcare organization and how this university (Elon) is currently using peer to peer networking to raise money for the university targeting the younger alumni. A video was send to a database of students that had graduated as far back as 11 years ago! Although the making this video was full of jokes and is a little cheesy.... IT WORKED! The percentage went up by 50% in less than four weeks. I really think that UNC-Charlotte should do something like this so that the money that we need would come from the alumni, instead of increasing our TUTION! lol Here is the video.... too funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmB-14st69w

Peer to Peer Lending

I thought this was a really interesting website that broke down peer to peer lending.  It says peer to peer lending is just as safe as getting money from a bank; there is just as much risk involved.  Essentially, P2P lending cuts out the bank.  The lending and receiving money takes place between an individual needing money and one or more lending companies willing to take a risk.

P2P Networks: Sony vs. Tenenbaum

There are many cases on Copyright infringement of music downloads. On 2010, Joel Tenenbaum was charged $675,000 by Sony Entertainment.  The judge thought it was unconstitutionally excessive, so she lowered to $67500 worth of damages. Mr. Tenenbaum thought the lowered amount was still excessive and that he would have to go into bankruptcy.  He filed an appeal to the Court and now the file is in the first circuit of Court of appeals. In my honest opinion, I feel that Tenenbaum is being charged way too much on a case like this. I understand that he committed copy right infringement through peer to peer, but there are tons of people just like him. And charging him $67500 will not deter illegal file-sharing.
