peer to peer usage on the decline?

a report on slyck.com states that p2p usage has been significantly affected since limewire was shut down but it is unclear wheather the affect will be prolonged or merely tempory.  here is the whole story.

  1. I think it's temporary. Just until another site finds its way into mainstream.

  2. I can understand why the p2p network usage has declined due to the latest termination of Limewire. I feel as though Limewire was the most popular p2p network, so that explains the significant decrease in p2p network usage.

  3. I'm surprised, usually when something like that fails then everybody moves on to something else. I along with everyone I know still download all their music online through different p2p. I just google what i want and it comes up eventually.

  4. I think its because companies are finally starting to realize the power of the internet as a delivery mechanism. Why pirate shows (when i can take such a long time to download/find a specific episode of a show ) when I can just jump on Hulu, watch it for free, and give the creators a source of Revenue.

I like a show on ABC called V, because of night class I couldn't ever catch new episodes, so I loved watching it on HULU, then they took it off hulu, guess what show I started pirating.

  5. I personally think that this decline may be permanent. Law officials are beginning to close the gap on p2p piracy it seems. More and more people I talk to (myself included) no longer use these programs because the threat of being prosecuted seems more "real" now. That being said I do not think that p2p usage will ever cease to exist. There will always be people out there willing to take the risk and get what they want for free.

  6. I think that this will prolong because like they brought down limewire, they will continue to bring down other websites that have free downloading

  7. I agree with those that believes that even though Limewire has been shut down. This wont prevent new P2P websites from opening up. Limewire was tagerted because it was the largest of the P2P systems. Even if the court system begin to shut down other sites. I believe the way technology is improving will result in a new form of P2P that will just be just as much as a problem as Limewire.

  8. I believe that there is a definite decrease in P2P netowrking because of Limewire being shut down. But there will always be something new out there to do the same job or better.

I know of a website that allows you to take any youtube video and converts it to an mp3. So essentially as long as your favorite song is on youtube, you can download it to your computer. Seems easier and safer than Limewire to me.

  9. I think it looks on the decline just because they dont know what the next limewire is, to have statistics on it.
